Depending upon the questions you want answered, and the nature of your condition, testing can take anywhere between a half day to a day and a half. Typically, it will take about an eight-hour day with a one-hour lunch break.
Prior to your visit, any records forwarded to us from other specialists are reviewed.
At the beginning of your visit, we discuss your reasons for wanting an evaluation, the questions you hope to have answered, and your medical history. We will also discuss issues or events in your life that may have had a significant impact and that may prove relevant to the questions you want answered.
The initial interview takes about one hour, and it can be very helpful to have someone you know and trust participate in at least part of the interview.
After the interview, a variety of standardized neuropsychological and psychological tests are administered. These involve activites such as answering questions and solving puzzles of various types.
The same tests are not administered in every evaluation. They are selected with your specific questions in mind. The selection of tests can also change as results are obtained. This part of the evaluation typically lasts five to six hours.
After your testing session is over, your neuropsychologist tallies the results and compares your scores to others of your age. Factors such as your education and other information from your life history are also taken into account, so that we compare your test results to what would be expected of you and not just of everyone your age.
Results are then compiled into a written report. Scoring, intreptation of scores, and integration of the data into a report takes your neuropsychologist about 50% of the time spent actually administering the tests.
You are then invited back for a one-hour session to discuss the results and their meaning. Copies of your report are forwarded to whomever you choose, typcially at least including the physician who referred you to us. |
